Obagi Blue Peel is a chemical peel like no other. As of this writing, it has been around for nearly two decades and is a tried and true treatment for stretchable wrinkles and stretch marks, epidermal and dermal pigmentation (visible pigment that lies on the top of the skin as well as pigment that is non-visible at this current time, but pigment that will eventually reach the surface of your skin), sun damage, large pores, skin laxity (lacking tightness) and even actinic keratosis (severe sun damage typically noticeable in a patch that has turned dry and scaly).
This peel does require pre-treating of the skin prior to the peel with the Obagi line of products. This is known as the NuDerm kit and contains hydroquinone as well as tretinoin (pure retinol) to condition the skin and prepare it for the peel. Typically, this will be a 6-8 week process with your peel occurring 3-4 days after the last use of the products.
This peel is meant for all skin types so skin color does not affect the selection of the client. The only difference between skin types is that lighter skin types will be required to pre-treat the skin for 6 weeks while darker skin types will require 8 weeks.
What is the difference between lighter chemical peels vs Obagi
Obagi is considered a medium to deep depth of peel or TCA (trichloroacetic acid) and will drop lower into the epidermis (all 5 layers) as well as the top layer of your dermis (where collagen resides). A chemical peel is known as a “light peel” will reach the top 1-3 layers of your epidermis. Having the ability to drop lower means we can achieve greater results for overall skin rejuvenation.
Obagi Blue Peel can be used for face, neck, chest, hands, shoulders.
Healing Times can and will vary and we suggest downtime of approximately 4-7 days.
Post Treatment Protocols:
- Shower and bath normally
- Sleep on your back
- Avoid excessive facial expressions
- Never pick your skin or the peeling that will occur
- Wash face twice daily with NuDerm Gentle Cleanser
- Apply hydrators without fragrance 4x per day including products such as Aquaphor and Bacitracin to allow for skin healing
