What is Dysport?

Dysport, also known as abobotulinumtoxin A, is an injection that treats wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily stopping muscle movement. It is a non-invasive procedure used for cosmetic and medical purposes.

Dysport was approved by the FDA in 2009.

How Does Dysport Work?

Like Botox, Dysport is a neuromodulator, an injectable that uses botulinum toxin to target different areas of the face. A single treatment of Dysport can last up to five months.

Our team of licensed, professional aestheticians will inject a small amount of the substance directly into your facial muscles, causing them to relax and stop moving. As this happens, the skin around these muscles becomes smoother, reducing wrinkles in the area.

Dysport effects are temporary, and this treatment is not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing.

Generally, Dysport treatments are localized to the face, targeting areas like glabellar lines and vertical wrinkles in the forehead.

What Areas can be Treated with Dysport?

Typically, Dysport treatments are used for the forehead and eyebrow area of the face.

The Dysport Treatment Procedure:

Dysport injections are in-patient procedures with little downtime. Our aestheticians will inject Dysport directly into your facial muscles in as many as five different areas around the forehead and eyebrow region.

If necessary, we may use a small amount of topical anesthesia to prevent pain, but generally, patients do not experience significant feelings of discomfort.

The injections take only about 20 minutes, with the rest of the time spent in the office being preparation and aftercare monitoring. You’ll be able to leave the treatment immediately and resume daily activities, though it’s important not to rub the treated area and wait at least two hours before physical activities.

Risks and Side Effects of Dysport:

Dysport side effects include bruising, pain, headaches, and swelling at the injection site. Generally speaking, side effects of Dysport dissipate within 48 hours of treatment. In rare cases, Dysport and Botox injectables can cause drooping eyelids and drooling (when injected around the mouth), but these effects are usually temporary.

How Long Does Dysport Take to Work? How Long Does It Last?

Dysport results typically take effect within two to four days after the injection, with full effects becoming more pronounced and visible within 10 to 14 days. Individual results may vary, and factors such as muscle strength and metabolism can impact how quickly results appear.

Who Should Use Dysport?

Ideal candidates are men and women in good health between the ages of 18 and 64. While treatment is generally recommended for moderate to severe cases of wrinkles, many patients choose Dysport treatments as a preventative.

Dysport may not be right for you if you have had facial surgeries in the past, have weak facial muscles, an asymmetrical face, deep scarring or sagging eyelids, or if you take medication for muscle spasms.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Dysport Treatment

Because each client’s need is unique, the price for Dysport treatments varies. We provide upfront and transparent pricing before treatments at the time of the consultation, verbally and in writing.

Dysport typically works faster than Botox, and results can be seen in as little as two days as opposed to four with Botox. Some patients do not see results before a week, however. Dysport can also last longer than Botox; in some cases, Dysport has been seen to last 5 months compared to Botox, lasting only one. This depends on a myriad of factors like the area treated, patient health, etc. Some think Dysport creates a more natural-looking appearance than Botox.

Dysport aftercare recommendations include resisting the urge to touch, rub, or scratch your face, especially at the injection site. You should also avoid exercising or getting a massage or facial in the first 24 hours following treatment, and you should not lie down for at least four hours after the treatment to avoid improper settling.
