Dermal Fillers are absolutely game-changing and wonderful. Did you know that BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers have only been out since around 2002? The industry is ever-evolving because it is still in its infancy.
There are so many options out there now that it can be difficult to know which ones to choose. We get it! Truly, as providers, we have just as many options and it can sometimes be challenging to weed through them all. So, for us, it comes down to areas of the face and which fillers will be best utilized within these areas and we carry the associated fillers. The trust in which ones we carry come from injectors themselves and their input and results as well as the reputation of the dermal filler companies. We love the ones that have been there since inception and are ever-evolving as they are rigorous testers and have the FDA behind them. For us, these are trusted names such as Allergan and Galderma.
What’s the Difference Between BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers?
Advanced Skin Therapy advises people to understand the difference between neurotoxins such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® and Dermal Fillers. BOTOX® Cosmetic will relax the muscle that makes the wrinkle thus eliminating the wrinkle. Dermal Fillers should be looked at as “filling in”. What this means is areas that are lacking volume such as your nasal labial folds, under eyes, cheeks, and lips. They also “fill in” lip lines that occur around and above the lips. And they work beautifully.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Most fillers these days will last approximately 9-12 months but there are a few that boast 2 years of life and even others that say 5+ years. We don’t offer the 5+ year fillers only because they cannot be dissolved and therefore if they would be put in a bit incorrectly, there is no resolution. While we are on this subject, I would like to state that the 9 months to 2 years fillers are made with “hyaluronic acid” which can be dissolved at any time should something not flattering occur. Of course, your hope is that this will never occur, but the truth is that it can and sometimes does occur so it is wonderful to have the dissolve option available.
How Much do Dermal Fillers Cost?
The costs of filler will definitely vary. It varies by companies, it varies by injector skill levels, and it varies by the number of fillers needed. The great thing about a filler however is that you can always start with one and go from there. Say an injector recommends 2-4 fillers for cheek volume; it is perfectly ok to just start with one and come back for more.
The truly great thing about dermal fillers is that you will see some results instantly so you can make a decision at that time or you can wait for your filler to fully set which can take 10-28 days. Any time I get a dermal filler, I love to look at my skin immediately and every week thereafter as the “setting” is fun to see. To me, it only gets more and more improved with each week.
Who Are Dermal Fillers For?
Dermal Fillers are for all ages, but obviously, the older you are the more need you will have for them. This is because volume and collagen break down more and more with each passing decade. Are you ever too old or too young to get a dermal filler? You know it was once thought that 65 years was the cutoff for fillers, but we now know that is not true as there are women into their 80’s getting dermal fillers for a more youthful look. And on the younger side, of course, no one under the age of 18 years old but the young ones are loving to get their lips filled for a more full look. They see it in Hollywood so why not? And of course, all women like fuller lips so any age applies to that filler.
