What is CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

This is a powerful laser device used for resurfacing the skin. It is a mix of wavelengths rather than the C02 of old.  It provides a matrix of laser pulses that vary in intensity and depth depending on your skin type and desired results.  Treatments will vary based on the extent of skin resurfacing that you are seeking.

What Skin Conditions Does it Treat?

What is the Procedure Like?

You should expect some discomfort but a topical anesthetic is applied beforehand making the procedure tolerable. You will numb for approximately 30 minutes prior and the treatment itself is typically 45 mins for full face.  Other body parts or smaller areas will vary in the amount of treatment time required.

What Body Parts Can It Be Used On?

While it is used so much on the face and neck areas, it can be utilized on all body regions.

Is This Procedure Safe And What Is The Background On This Device?

C02 lasers have been around for decades now.  While the original C02 laser was very effective, it did require weeks of downtime and the cost was excessive.  Fractionated lasers came out for those who wanted a similar treatment and results but without all of the downtime and recovery.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

What is so wonderful about this device is that you can have it your way. We can do light depth treatments, medium depth and even deep depth treatments.  Of course, a consultation to discuss your end goal is always required and will determine depth and treatments.  Most will need just 1-2 treatments (with 8 weeks in between each) and then just one treatment every 12-18 months to keep up with your results. Some will only need some resurfacing/smoothing (light to medium) while others with scarring or deep wrinkling will likely require a deeper treatment and maybe two treatments.

How Long Before I Start To See Results?

You will see results after one treatment showing a softer, smoother and less pigmented complexion.  Over time and while awaiting collagen to build, the fine lines, wrinkles, additional pigment and uneven texture will show improvement.

What can I do to help Assist in the Best Results?

Best results will require a proper skincare regimen and being sensible in the sun and water.  We will have you discontinue the use of any retinoid or lightening products that you may be using 5 days prior to your treatment.  While your health and age can be factors with regards to the amount of damage, this in and of itself, should not be a detriment to getting good results.

What should I expect after My Treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, your skin will be red and quite hot (like a sunburn).  This heat may continue for a few days depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment.  We will have you utilize a vinegar and water compress for the first 24 hrs.  After 24 hrs, you will gently cleanse and apply hydration serums for the next 72 hrs.  After this time sunscreens and moisturizers can be applied along with the hydration serum.  You will be provided with a post-treatment handout for easy reference.  Lastly, you should expect a darkening and peeling of dead skin on the surface of the treated area. This is a natural part of the exfoliation process and likely will last between 7-10 days.

Do I need a Prior Consultation or Service?

Yes!  This treatment absolutely requires a consultation first as well as a facial in order to prep the skin beforehand. This will ensure that your skin is in really great shape before a powerful laser treatment such as this.  If you already get regular facials and use good skincare, you would not need to have an additional facial prior.  Consultations are free of charge.

Do you offer Before and After Photos so we can track our results?

Absolutely!  We do before and after photos for most of our services and this would be no exception. It’s fun to track your progress.  We agree!

Before and after treatment, the skin may be red, swollen, or itchy for two to three days, occasionally with minor swelling or bruising.

However, most clients see improvement in the appearance of their skin about two to four weeks after using the skin resurfacing laser.
